Jay P. Morgan with The Slanted Lens has released a new video that demonstrates how he and his team were able to precisely capture the exact moment they wanted, using the laser mode on the MIOPS trigger system. Morgan breaks down the tricks for getting just the right shot, without having to rapid-fire a bunch of extra, useless images.
If you're not familiar with the MIOPS Smart trigger, it was a successfully funded Kickstarter project from 2014 that made over $350,000, and now it is available for sale at B&H. The basic idea of the MIOPS is that it can trigger the camera from things like light, sound, movement, and it has other built-in features to enable your camera to do much more. If you're doing any studio work with fast moving objects, or maybe chasing storms while looking for that once-in-a-lifetime lightning strike photo, this would definitely be worth looking into. Below is another video by the Slanted Lens, that explains in specific, how the MIOPS Smart Trigger works.
If you're curious about whether or not this might work with your own camera, the MIOPS site has this Camera Compatibility list that you can check.
