Dang in the UK ...

Another competition that's only for US readers. Nice one.

i'm sure we can find someone located in the US to get it shipped to, and collect it somehow, even with a 40$ DHL it's worth it :D

It's a legal thing. When it comes to any kind of contest, giveaway, lottery, etc, there are a lot of laws that have to be followed that vary based on whether it's a contest, a giveaway, a lottery, etc, as well as vary based on age (different rules apply if under 18 is eligible to enter) and municipality.

There are different laws in different states in the U.S.

There are different laws in different countries and probably within different municipalities in different countries.

Making something like this available to the world is very likely impossible, even if the lawyers required to set it up to be internationally legal worked for free. Factor in lawyer fees and something like this is a non-starter.

If they do U.S. only, the only cost of the giveaway is the camera itself because there's one set of rules to follow to be nationally legal, no lawyers are needed, and the contest management platform that hosts the contest and chooses the winner is either free or cheap.

I've participated in numerous (almost) worldwide giveaways. It's definitely not impossible nor excessively costly.

Were you participating as an entrant, Philip Philippidis, or were you one of the organizers?

If you were an organizer, can you share some info on how to do a worldwide giveaway that complies with the applicable laws in each participating country? Maybe that will help future contests be more widely available.

Also, what's a ballpark cost for doing a giveaway like the one here, but done internationally?

Only as an entrant but I know there are companies that help organize them and handle everything even for international giveaways, e.g. Rafflecopter.

If you've never organized an international giveaway, how did you conclude that it's not impossible or excessively costly? Everything looks easy and inexpensive when somebody else is doing the work and paying the bill.

I just looked at the terms of service for Rafflecopter and in multiple places, they state the the burden is on the contest organizer to make sure their contest complies with any applicable laws.

Researching the laws regarding contests, giveaways, etc for multiple international jurisdictions is not going to be cheap or easy.

As a business owner, I know that these companies do giveaways like this as a marketing strategy and they want as many people to participate as possible. But there are costs of doing business, even when doing something as seemingly simple as a giveaway.

I'm certain they're excluding non-U.S. photographers because for one or more reasons, it's not economically viable for this to be an international contest. Whatever the "when all is said and done" costs and effort there are for giving away this camera, I suspect that to make this an international giveaway, those costs and effort would be some multiple of what doing it U.S. only costs.

The additional costs/complexities of doing an international giveaway likely exceed the benefits, which is why they would choose to run it U.S. only. If it were just as easy and the same or a nominal price difference to run it internationally, I'm sure they would.

Is this like the canon eos rp giveaway ?

If there's any camera I've wanted for a long while it's the X-T3. A marvelous camera. Fingers crossed!!

Hey alright a contest in the US!

WOOHOOO!!! Thanks for the chance to win this awesome camera guys! Fingers crossed!!!!

I'm still working with my D300 and have had my eye on Fuji for sometime now! Fingers and toes crossed!!

Wow I've been saving up for this camera for so long and here's a giveaway for it!

I congratulate the winner. I wish it was me , not going to lie. Not being able to work due to chronic pain sucks when you have a “ hobby “ as expensive as photography. I don’t make a living from it so I guess from that standpoint, I’m not a professional. I remember the time that question was asked. When are you considered a professional photographer? The consensus was when you make a living from it. Unfortunately, I can’t but I have have taught myself all I can about photography and the rest is instinct. I am in desperate need of pro level gear. Lenses mainly but a great body wouldn’t hurt. I know we all wanted to win. Better luck next time. In the meantime, I’ll just keep pushing along. 😊
