No doubt, composition is one of the trickiest and most nuanced aspects of landscape photography, and there are numerous philosophies and techniques for finding success. If that is something you struggle with, this excellent video tutorial discusses some of what works and what does not in landscape composition.
Coming to you from Nigel Danson, this fantastic video tutorial features him discussing some of his recent photos and what worked and did not in terms of his compositional choices. Composition can take a lifetime to master, and the best photographers often show a very multi-pronged approach to it. The reason it is particularly difficult in landscape photography is because you cannot rearrange the elements of the frame like you can in most other genres; instead, you only have your own positioning and choice of focal length and aperture to use. Personally, that has always been one of the challenges that I have enjoyed about landscape photography, and it is something that I am always working to improve upon.
