Overview of Capture One Pro 10.1 New Features

A little over a week ago, Phase One introduced Capture One Pro 10.1. The new release of the professional imaging software comes with a couple of exciting new features making life easier for many photographers, especially those using Fuji cameras. In this 45-minute long webinar, David Grover goes over most new aspects of the app and shows how to take advantage of them.

Capture One Pro 10.1 is not revolutionary when compared to its previous version. However, it does make one’s workflow easier. The first feature that will simplify any photographer’s work is the redesigned style and presets interface. It makes going through all the styles you saved much easier, and it doesn’t cover the image anymore.

The second addition to the image editing software that is presented by Grover is the PSD compatibility. I know some will say it was about time. Also, no mention in the release was made in that regard. However, the loading time of layered TIFF files is noticeably shorter. While Capture One used to crash quite often when loading my retouched TIFF files, it now displays them within a fraction of a second. Round-trip between Photoshop and Capture One is thus better and easier than ever.

Fujifilm users will be happy to discover that all features are now available to them. Like Grover shows in the video above, everything works perfectly, tethering aside. The file processing has also been slightly tweaked, but it may not be noticeable to everyone.

Two other minor improvements that are also showcased in the webinar are the temporary reset, or as many call it, before/after, and the color wheels that can be shown in a vectorscope layout. Quite a few photographers had asked the first, and it’s finally here, while the second is a great option for content creators who produce both videos and still images.

Then, the last thing Grover presents in the webinar is the possibility of using tokens for watermarking. It opens up a new world of possibilities and helps make proofing easier.

Have you already updated to Capture One Pro 10.1? Have you noticed anything else that has improved your workflow or image editing? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

There is also something else which I think is new to 10.1 (or maybe I haven't noticed in COP10)

Alongside the global before/after option which is by option(alt)+click on the reset button, you can also click and hold on any adjustment name to see a before/after of any individual adjustment in any adjustment tool.

Forr example, up until now, you could only see the before/after of the whole exposure tool (exposure, contrast, brightness, saturation altogether) but now we can simply click on contrast or saturation or any other adjustment name in order to see before after of that specific adjustment.
I find it really useful because most of the adjustment tools are consist of several options and sometimes it's better to see how an individual option is affecting the image.

[sorry if this thing has already existed in the previous version and I got really excited about it, but I just found it out in 10.1]

David Grover is a great instructor… Capture One YouTube channel and webinars are
indispensable — really underated.

Love capture one, it's an awesome app

I really want to switch from Lightroom to Capture One, but I have almost 10 years of catalogs in LR, and I don't think I can transfer them, and living with 2 systems isn't ideal.

any body have Capture One Pro 10.1 PC version please Help Me

Any issue related to Capture One Pro 10.1 on PC or Mac will probably be better answer by Phase One customer service ;)

So far I find CP1X frustrating as I use brushes as 90% of my workflow.. coming from Aperture, CP1X is like peanut butter. What takes 1 step in Aperture now takes 3-6 steps in Capture One. So far CP1X Achilles Heel is the need and implementation of Local Adjustments and Layers.
