Solitude

This image was taken at "Forca dei Disteis", the last ridge during the ascent to mount "Montasio" (2754m) located in the Italian parts of the Julian alps. This mountain is close to the borders of Austria and Slovenia.

I planned this shot quite rigorously. I wanted to position myself right at the edge of the ridge, looking into the sunset and at mount "Jof di Miez" located in the center of the frame. I've been at this spot before, so I also knew the image would be framed between two rockwalls with a bunch of leading lines running into the center of the frame.
The Forca dei Disteis is located at the western face of "Montasio" with a steep drop of 1600m called "Clapadorie Canyon". I personally feel that this is also a strong element in the composition. You can't actually see the drop in the lower right corner, but even without knowing, you can feel that this "lack of foreground" might have something to do with the vast landscape.
At that very day I finally had the right weather and light conditions, so I hiked up to the ridge and set up my camera. When I was ready to get into position, a family of curious alpine ibexes came across and one of them positioned perfectly in the frame.

I think this glorious mountain animal makes for a way better subject than I ever could have.

I love this image and the light

Thank you very much!

This photo proves that luck can turn a good photo into a great photo!

Thank you! You are right. You have to be in it, to win it. If you go out and shoot constantly, someday the right conditions and something special will happen.

It's not luck if you return to the same spot multiple times until you get the right conditions ;)

Stellar image!

Thank you very much!

I really love this, but it fails the brief because there is no logo.

Thanks for your remark :)
There is one in the lower right corner, if you look closely. Thats the way i watermark my images. Subtle and not too distracting.

Hey, no kidding. I honestly opened the image three times and couldn't see it.

Haha thats good! I am trying to not make it obvious and visible.

Wonderful image, but you logo is practically indiscernible (which is fine, but probably not in a contest about logos).

Thank you very much!
You are right! The thing is: I always do my watermarks this way and I did not want to change for this contest.
Just wanted to give it a shot, if I am not gonna get picked, thats alright with me!
