Was doing a commercial shoot for the PA Ballet School, standard fare stuff, white seamless. But I had been dying to photograph the dancers in front of this brick wall with the incredible patina. Once the artistic (dance) director signed off on my shots he said "Ok, we have what we need. Do whatever you want." A few dancers stayed behind when I asked if they were game to play around with my idea of lighting them graphic novel style—because I felt it would highlight their athleticism. This is one of several VERY satisfying shots. But shooting ballet dancers ain't easy. I cut my "action teeth shooting skateboarders; so I'm dialed into catching peek action, BUT wasn't prepared for the dancer's reactions "oh my god, delete that, my foot is all wrong...." or "my hands are horrible there.."
