This is a conceptual type image, although it is a portrayal of reality. My original title was THEY ARE ONLY BOYS. Looking at the subject, who is our grandson I thought of all the thousands of young lives that are lost because of futile wars. That was one of the reasons for making this photo.
The other reason was a sort of personal challenge in the making and editing. The props are objects borrowed from a local muiseum. I realise that maybe somethings are not authentic to the period of the American Civil war, but I guess thats what "artistic liberty" is called. The light inside the lamp was by a Lumecube-a wonderful little source. The light (mostly for his face rim light) was a little flash off to the left and back a bit. Then there was a small amount of ambient daylight. Editing the composition was done with ON1 RAW.
