Outdoors, photographers must deal with challenges of the environment, including wind, rain, snow, and extremes of heat and cold. Fortunately these obstacles can be overcome with proper preparation and clothing. In the Spring and summer in Scotland one challenge that defies all preparation is MIDGES. In still moist areas swarms of billions if the almost microscopic insects attack and bite any and all exposed skin, with little or no protection from mets or light clothing. This shot was taken while lying in a bog on Skye while being attacked by endless swarms of the tiny creatures, but at least the shot was successfully composed and captured.
