This sunset photo captures a uniquely wild and iconic corner of Yellowstone National Park, where geothermal energy, untamed wildlife, and historic architecture meet. Framed by a rising plume of steam from a nearby geyser, the image reflects the natural beauty and geothermal energy that define Yellowstone. As I was setting up for this shot, I noticed fresh bison droppings nearby. It was a reminder that wildlife had just passed through and that I needed to hurry to take my shot. I was drawn to the way the golden light caught the steam and landscape, giving the scene a dreamlike, timeless feel.
This shot was taken handheld at 90mm, f/6.3, 1/100 sec, ISO 800 using a Nikon Z8 with a 24-120mm f/4 Nikkor S lens.
