Friendship Archway in Washington, DC's Chinatown
Backstory:
This image transforms a bustling moment in Chinatown, DC, into a timeless scene. I originally aimed to capture the Friendship Archway in its entirety, but I noticed traffic passing through. I stepped carefully into the street, Nikon Z6 II with 24-70mm f/4 in hand, and timed a low shutter speed to capture a single bus moving past. This created a striking blur, giving motion to the city while the archway stands still and enduring. The main challenge was precisely timing my movement into the street and the shutter release to achieve the perfect balance between motion and stability. The image’s uniqueness comes from showing a familiar urban landmark in an uncommon, contemplative light—the city moving at full speed, yet the archway remains a constant, quietly majestic presence.
