A big part of being a fitness coach is to get athletes to push beyond their physical boundaries. Emotion plays a big role in it - hyping up before each heavy lift, celebrating fitness milestones. "You got this! Yeah! Way to go!"

Nothing about this screams fitness. The backdrop is just a cinder block wall and a metal roll up door. The way you've positioned him and composed the shot, makes the wall the brightest part of the frame, which is where the viewer's eyes are going to go first, then head back to the highlights on his face.
If fitness was the goal for the theme, then why not add fitness equipment or weights? Better yet, shoot it inside a gym. Your subject is basically floating in a mixture of gray and white tones, so there's no way to draw a story out of it. You could crop in tighter and get rid of that shadow on the bottom, but it still doesn't tell me that this guy is a heavy lifter or trainer.
Thanks for the feedback! I see what you mean.
The original (as per client's wishes) was black and white and it was cropped more. Perhaps should have left it as is instead of trying to be extra "creative."
Oh well. All of this is just to learn and get better next time.
