Hi all,
After seeing the posts from Korey Napier and Eric Kruk, I decided to have a go at some blending. I was wanting to get a natural blend between the internal light of the room and the external light of the garden without the outside being hazy. So I've been working with Lumenzia to blend them together. As I increase my skill level will rework my initial attempts as there are some issues as you will see from my page. I had a go with 32bit HDR and Blend If, but thus far blending is giving me the best results.
Nice one, Ashley! Looks like the blending went well! I think my only critique would be the light fixture at the top that isn't fully in or out of frame. Sometimes I end up with that happening in my shots and I'll clone it out or try to adjust on location. I guess it is somewhat subjective though, because on the flip side, it can add a little more context to the space I reckon.
When I first did the room I had a go at removing the light. It just left it a little empty for me. then there was the continuity from the other side of the room.
That said. Indy, comment below has given me a few new ideas. A good one is cropping. I think it works much better, for the same result.
Yes. I really like Indy's crop as well. I think that would be the way to go. Overall though, I think the image turned out well!
Pretty good blend.
My criticism of this image for use by a client would be that the right hand pillow is in obvious shadow. I also can see a shadow on the wall adjacent to the right hand lamp.
I would also crop tighter to eliminate ceiling, floor, and walls on both sides. I would have moved the vase with stick is in closer.
Much of my life shooting interiors is moving furniture. :/
I might also suggests using strobes with umbrellas to add directional lighting to open those shadows on the bed. It would also have the advantage of increasing snap and color accuracy of the fabric.
When using flash, I gel them to match the ambient lighting and powerful enough to open shadows but not be overwhelming.
here is my quick edit.
Thanks for the input. And thanks for taking the time to play.
I like your crop, you still get the sense of the space but it's much more focused.
Nice work on the pillow and vase. I'll have to keep an eye on that and furniture in the future. Good call on the flash under the bed.
This work was to help build up my protifilo, so I was playing and learning. These rooms have been quite a good learning curve on capturing the scene and blending. there is quite an extreme from the outside to in.
The client likes them and has asked me to go back and do the rest of the rooms. Getting paid will be a bonus too. So I'll be taking your advice forward in the next few weeks when the weather improves.
Ash
I think you have done very well.
You have a good native eye and a sense of light balance.
The rest is detail and practice.
All my sharpest instruction came from dissatisfied clients.Much to my embarrassment.
