Siddhartha De's picture

Unveiled

I welcome comments and a discussion from the FStoppers community on this picture.

This is a shot from the occasional wedding I shoot. This was from a wedding in Pune, India. Hindu brides wear red. I was positioned behind the bride, ready to take a shot of her reflection in the mirror when I was confronted with two problems. First, there were elements in the room behind the bride which were in sharp focus in the reflection and were taking away from the soft, dreamy look I wanted to portray. Second, a small part of me, or at least my camera and shutter finger were also coming into the frame, and it was difficult for me to manoeuvre myself in a way so that I wasn't part of the composition. I asked the bride to move her veil over the back of her right shoulder, allowing me to shoot through rather than past it, and this simple step completely changed the flavour of the photograph. I hope you like it.
