Firewave, Southern Nevada

One of the most stunning locations in the desert southwest. I had seen a couple of images of this place on Facebook before it became over run with people and had made the decision that I would go to the place, search it out and make a photograph of it. Early one May I was driving to see my mom for Mother's day and my route would take me to within just few miles of it, so the decision was made. I hiked into it from the most known trail head and found it, but not satisfactory image was made. I visited a second time and realized that I was going about it all wrong, and I found a much shorter route than the common one. When I walked up to it from the easier location there was a gaggle of people near it and they began yelling at me as I walked up, but none of them had their cameras out - they were just sitting on their butts, so I ignored them, made my photograph and left. I used a Toyo 45A camera, a 65mm Sinaron lens with a #61 dark green filter, and Kodak T-Max 100 film.

BTW, it was an amazing day for me. The air temps usually are well over 100 at that time of the year, but it was overcast and the high temp for the day was only about 85. Sometimes good things happen. The overcast sky even gave me texture in the sky which is unusual for that time of the year.
