One of my favorite things to do is to find the smaller details in a scene and portray those in an organized, interesting composition. We were hiking in the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska. I really enjoy the delicate details that are revealed about these places. These images are complicated by the fact that any movement in the air at all, of any kind will cause the fronds to move, and any movement of any kind will spoil the image. I am greatly influenced in my work by preceding great masters such as Edward Weston, Ernst Haas, Morley Baer and others, and of course the one and only Ansel Adams. It can be difficult to be so aware of these peoples work and not become derivative. I used a Canon 6D camera with a 24-105L lens. The image was exposed using Canon RAW, exported to Lightroom for preliminary adjustments. All final adjustments were done using Photoshop only, including the black and white conversion. No plug in filters were used.
I like it to see you are also attracted by these ancient plants! Yes, the guys are moved by the softest air movement. Your photograph reminded me to the "hushabye" I found last autumn
