Contorted Aspens, Snow

Winter is one of my favorite seasons because it reduces trees to their most basic form and allow us to see the grace and form of the tree itself. I had seen this little stand of aspens in a field opposite where I was and thought I might find something interesting there. Because the area where I was standing was about 8 feet higher than the base of the trees it was impossible to see how deep the snow was, so I started walking across the meadow to them. It wasn't very long till I was knee deep in snow, and almost waist deep in places. Needless to say, it was a slog to get to the spot where I wanted to be. Snow shoes would have been much preferable but I didn't have any with me... so you do what you have to do. Thankfully it was very cold so the snow didn't stick to me very badly. I used a Toyo 45A camera, 210mm Sironar-S, a #15 Yellow filter to cut out some of the blue haze that would reduce image contrast and Kodak T-Max 400 film, with an Induro tripod fitted with a Velbon Magnesium 3 way head.
