Where the Lighthouse Watches

Today I’m revisiting an image from Punta Frouxeira, captured during one of those unforgettable sunsets I was lucky enough to witness months ago.

I had left several frames waiting in the archive, knowing the right moment to share them would come. After heavy rains and strong Atlantic swell in the days before, the cliffs were transformed. Pools of water had formed across the rocky surface, reshaping the foreground completely.

This large tidal pool became the anchor of my composition. A touch of green algae, carried up by the waves, added a subtle but powerful contrast against the dark rock. Natural textures surrounded the pool, creating leading lines that guide the eye toward the lighthouse standing firmly in the distance.

Above, the sky exploded with texture and golden light. Layer upon layer of clouds catching the last rays of the day, turning everything into a spectacle of colour. For a few minutes, the entire coastline seemed unreal — saturated, dramatic, almost overwhelming.

With the lighthouse presiding over the scene and the foreground framing the path toward it, everything aligned in a way that only coastal sunsets can deliver.

Some evenings don’t just end the day — they leave a mark.
