The Atlantic Edge

With spring slowly approaching, today I’m revisiting a photograph captured last year along the spectacular Acantilados de Loiba, on the wild Atlantic coast near Ortigueira in Galicia.

It was one of those calm spring evenings when the light begins to soften and the sky slowly fills with warm colours over the ocean. Scenes like this are what make coastal landscape photography along the Galician cliffs so special — raw Atlantic energy mixed with moments of incredible calm.

For this composition, I placed a group of textured rocks in the foreground, letting their natural lines guide the viewer’s eye toward the sea and the surrounding cliffs. Between the cracks of the stone, small patches of coastal vegetation and a few shy spring flowers were already clinging to the rock, quietly announcing the change of season.

Out in the water stands O Coitelo, the iconic pierced rock formation that rises from the sea and has become one of the most recognisable landmarks of this coastline.

Places like Acantilados de Loiba remind me why I love exploring the Atlantic coast of Galicia with a camera — dramatic cliffs, endless textures, and light that constantly transforms the landscape.

With spring getting closer, I can already feel that familiar excitement building again.
Longer days, new light, and many more seascape photography adventures waiting along this incredible coastline.
