Beneath the skin

Beneath the Skin is a conceptual portrait built around concealment and identity. The subject’s face is completely covered by bandages, while another face remains visible through the tattoo across his torso, creating a strange shift in where we look for identity. Directional, low-key lighting isolates the body from the dark background and brings out the contrast between the pale fabric and the textured skin. I wanted the image to remain visually immediate while revealing that second face only after the first glance.
