Electric Mask

This portrait was built around a flexible blue light placed directly between the camera and the subject. I kept one eye unobstructed so the face would remain connected to the viewer while the loops of light break the rest of the portrait into a temporary mask. The warm ambient background contrasts with the cold blue light, while the hands become part of the visual construction rather than simply a pose. The light acts simultaneously as illumination, foreground and obstruction.
