Phase One Releases Capture One Pro 9.0.1

Phase One Releases Capture One Pro 9.0.1

Phase One released Capture One Pro 9 just a little over two weeks ago and announced today its first update. This new version includes a couple of bug fixes and adds support for the DxO One camera.

Like any new major update, Capture One 9 was released with a couple of issues that were known by Phase One. Gladly, the Danish medium format camera manufacturer was quick to correct most glitches and release version 9.0.1 of their software. This minor service release includes a couple of fixes that will make their professional raw converter more stable.

Amongst the bugs that have been fixed, we find:

Mac

  • Synchronization of corrupted cos files
  • Keyword library: Add child keyword
  • Keywords: Drag a keyword between two CO documents
  • Save a style including a bundle ICC profile
  • Import of user styles after a clean install of CO
  • Other stability improvements

Windows

  • Crash when removing keywords
  • Red cross on the histogram of the levels tool followed by crash
  • Crash when setting up naming in the importer
  • Crash when stressing the thumbnail browser
  • Various other hangs and crashes

This is not the full list of corrections, but rather the most notable ones. Most of these bugs would make Capture One crash and could turn out to be quite annoying for some users. Because the framework used by the software is different on Mac and Windows, some bugs are different between the two versions. You will find a full list of the bug fixes brought by Capture One Pro 9.0.1 in the official press release.

To update Capture One, head over to Phase One's website and download the latest version.

I had a couple of rough shoots last week, trying to shoot tethered with Canon and CO9. Took some sorting out to determine what the problem was, ending up going back to CO8. Glad to see they have fixed the problem!

"Like any new major update, Capture One 9 was released with a couple of issues that were known by Phase One."

Actually, there was a time ehen software was beta tested well before it's release. The greed behind software publishers decided to just let the customers become full time beta testers instead.

just so you know CO9 was beta tested before it's release, i was one of many beta testers. it would take so long to be able to test every camera that is supported by C1. plus one down fall is that most beta testers are Phase One Ambassadors, which means that we are mostly use Phase One systems.

yes, i personally think that they pushed to release date to be Black Friday to sell more software. i say this because some of the problems that i reported were not fixed on the release.

bugs, crashes... it is still better software than Lightroom!!

You're right on Black Friday. I'm just tired of publishers releasing software prematurely. Just look at Adobe.

30-day trial fully functional no one forces you to buy anything. Greed.. get over it.

Right, 30 days of free beta testing.

With your logic no software can be used without being a beta tester.. i'v used CO9 on two shoots since it came out and it didn't skip a beat, that's more then i can say for LR...

You can keep your conspiracy theories on the Danish greed...

Apparently others haven't shared your luck. You're right, no software today is used without being a beta tester. I wasn't singling out Danish greed either.

I used to be in IT before I was working as a photographer and its common practice to send out a "finished release" and have the public work with it for a bit. At some point you need real world stresses to test and break a product. Developers tend to work in an "ideal" environment whereas users with bad habits and weird systems and stopgaps etc. rarely do. Like sending a child off to school for the first time, some times you have to prepare them as much as you can and hope for the best until you get a phone call or they come back home ok with out incident.

The software was beta tested. Phase One released at least 5 beta builds before publishing the final version of Capture One 9 and from what I was told we were over 600 beta testers.
While just like you I find annoying that final releases still have bugs, having worked in IT, like Ross, for a 5-6 years, I understand how much work goes into a new version and how important it is to get feedback from everyone, not just a couple of beta testers.
What I like about Phase One is the transparency they have about the issues encountered. When Capture One 9 was released, the press release made mention of most bugs that were fixed by this new minor update. If you read the 9.0.1 press release, same thing. There are still a couple of issues some users have had with the software and Phase One is working on it. Meaning you can read the info from Phase One if the software is critical in your workflow and decide for yourself if the update is worth the risk or not, or if any of the issue will break your workflow.
I'd love to see Adobe do the same thing :)

I shot yesterday and today all day with C-1 9.0 and a 5DMIII and it worked pretty great. I was actually surprised it seemed to be faster. The program did crash one time and I had to restart the computer to get it to quit, even force quit from the menu (MAC here) would not quit the program, I had to force shut down the computer.
Will try out the new update here soon. I trashed C-1 8 bc every time the camera would sleep in between shots when I woke it C-1 8 would automatically open.. So I trashed as I did not have time to figure out how to stop it from connecting even though C-1 9 was open and tethering fine.

Tip: Next time you can also try shutting down the process within Activity Monitor before a "hard shutdown", which is never really a good thing. You still might need to restart though, but it's better than with a frozen process.

Thanks Doc, I will try that next time. I never had a program that I could not force quit before.
Appreciate your advice.

CO9 has been working perfectly in terms of stability, speed and tethering (two cameras) with capture pilot since day one. The bugs with full sync was acknowledge the same day i contacted them.

Good to see they quickly fixed the issues some people where experience though.

Can anyone tell me if the advanced search feature on windows works for searching multiple file names at once? I have reported this issue several times and I never see it listed as a bug but in Capture one pro 8 it did not work and same for the release of pro 9. I would like to switch from lightroom but this is an important feature in my workflow.

Brandon, try the advanced search and switch the parameters to "any"

Click on the normal search bar, the dots in the right corner should bring there, add a "rule" for each one of your file names, and switch all a parameters to "any"

If you can though, try using labels and stars, you can cross search those much faster.
