Portrait of cosplayer portraying Jon Snow from Game Of Thrones. Part of a series of images I shot for Cosplay Culture magazine at the New York City Comic Con, the largest comic con in the country with more than 160,000 visitors. The magazine had a booth to promote and sell the magazine. As a part of the booth I set up a small photo studio and captured over 1,000 portraits excited costumed fans of comics, movies, animal and video games over the course of 4 days.
Due to the constraints of space and time, all of images were captured with a single light and single lens. I used a Profit Acute 600ws pack/head firing into medium sized Plume Wafer soft box. I used the Nikon 28-70mm AFS lens on my Nikon D810 and D3x for close portraits and wide group shots. In most cases I only had 1-2 minutes with each subject. Occasionally I was able to take an extra minute or two to finesse the lighting and create more dramatic portraits. This is one of my favorites.
The results will be displayed in a 400 page electronic version of Cosplay Culture magazine debuting in December and a 20-page layout in the print edition in February.
