Byodo-In Temple sits at the foot of the Ko’olau Mountains in Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, Oahu HI.
Believe it or not, its a smaller-scale replica of the over 950-year-old Byodo-in Temple, a United Nations World Heritage Site in Uji, Japan.
My guess is the original is MASSIVE, ‘cos this thing is huge in its own right!
In Winter, the hills and mountains of Oahu create some very moody scenes as the weather develops, caused by the warmer ocean breezes hitting the tall mountains, cooling and condensing as they are forced ever upward.
This was one such day… but only minutes before the heavens opened and almost drowned us. No wonder it was quiet... all the tourists thought they better stay inside and keep dry!
I love the mood the clouds created, matched with the almost abandoned feel of no people in the temple, as well as the complimentary red and green colours being enhanced by dark brooding skies.
