While touring a bourbon distillery in Louisville, I noticed this old stairway in bourbon aging house. After fermentation of bourbon, it is pumped into barrels and then stored in a “rick house” to age. While walking through this particular facility, I noticed this old staircase that allowed distillers access to stored barrels of the aging beverage. It was dark with thin shafts of light that created a wonderfully spooky mood. I thought of Edgar Allen Poe’s short story “Cask of Amontillado”.
