Knowing how to light, pose, and shoot a portrait is only half of what it takes to create a successful final image. It takes strong processing skills at the computer to complement your technique behind the camera. This comprehensive video tutorial will show you everything you need to know to retouch a portrait to a professional standard in Photoshop.
Coming to you from Eli Infante, this fantastic video tutorial will show you everything you need to know about retouching a portrait in Photoshop. In the tutorial, Infante will guide you through a variety of techniques, including using the Patch Tool for getting rid of distractions, using frequency separation to address blemishes, dodging and burning for further skin retouching, and color grading using the Selective Color tool (which is my favorite way to color grade). With such intensive and powerful techniques that often take a fair amount of time and effort, it can be easy to end up going a bit overboard. Generally, it is a good idea to employ some sort of check. This can be zooming out to evaluate the overall image every few minutes, clicking back and forth between the current edit and the un-retouched photo, or stepping away from your computer for a few minutes before you finish the export. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Infante.
