Don’t Underestimate This Cheap Wide Angle Lens From Viltrox. It Just Might Change the Game.

This new lens from Viltrox is definitely cheap for what it is, and it can be quite transformational for the right photographer. Now you can get a 14mm full frame for just $200.

Not too long ago, any autofocus-capable wide angle lens—whether a zoom or a prime—would automatically break the bank, especially if it was a full frame wide angle lens. For some reason, every brand in the past thought that wide angle prime lenses always had to have large maximum apertures. Today, Viltrox chose to take a different approach in order to make wide angle primes more attainable for someone on a budget.

The Viltrox Air lineup comprises compact and lightweight budget prime lenses with variants for both full frame and APS-C camera bodies. Most of these lenses are affordable primes with relatively larger apertures than most zooms. However, with the addition of the Viltrox 14mm f/4 Air, photographers who need wide angle perspectives—especially those who don’t need to shoot handheld in low light—now have an option that doesn’t require spending more than $200. In this video, we take a look at this new budget wide angle lens that was made with the right things in mind.

Ordered. After seeing good reviews from Dustin Abbott and Christopher Frost, I'm confident this is a nice complement to my Samyang AF 18/2.8 and 24/1.8 for trade show booths and wide room shots at event venues - all done on a tripod and stopped down to at least f5.6. I've got a Samyang AF 14/2.8, but it's probably optically inferior to this 14/4 - though perfectly adequate - and quite a bit larger and heavier. I don't use UWA much, and I want to save space in my bag for my workhorse lenses. Been wishing a long time for a sharp, dim and thus small, UWA prime.

I'm a big fan of Samyang, but this time I gotta say, "Thanks, Viltrox!"

Ordered one for my Zf. Close focusing, inexpensive, sharp, lightweight. What more do you want? Also not too worried about low light using it on the Zf.
