TimeFest 2011: Behind The Scenes With The Top Timelapse Shooters

Tom Guilmette is now a pretty regular name on Fstoppers because his BTSVs in the field of video are some of the best we have seen. In the video below Tom travels out west with Eric Kessler to film BTS footage of some of the top timelapse shooters of our time. My personal favorite is Tom Lowe and we haven't heard much from him in the last year because he is still working on his timelapse feature film. Check out the video below to learn from the best.

Man, i want this kessler equipment..

Anyone have a good description of what a moon strike is? Is it simply the moment the moon comes into frame or possibly over the horizon.

I believe it is when the moonlight illuminates the foreground.

Great work again Tom. So wish I had the cash to drop on some of this gear.

Any idea of what iPhone App they were using for the Milky Way plotting?

Star Walk

That was way cool. Would be fun to do something like that even without the gear. Looked like great company and a fun time :)

Great vid. Can't wait to see the final outcome.

I think the first location is Mono Lake, just outside of Yosemite.

anyone knows the technical settings to do some of those incredible shots? Aperture etc?

It varies.  I saw a few in the video that were 1/10sec 2.8 iso 3200.  While Laforet was shooting 15" exposures.   I tend to shoot longer exposures with lower ISO and around a f8.

It's a really amazing job !

Wonderful BTS would love to try some starscape timelapse.
No StarWalk for Android but there must be alternatives

Looking into Google Skymap etc - came across this resource that might be of use to people - a map/picture of light pollution through the world - so handy to find an area with less to do starscape photography.
