I had never been able to capture a good bolt of lightning. A storm came through and I decided to see if I could capture some bolts. I chased the incoming thunderhead to the most open field near me. Shot after shot, I captured nothing that pleased me enough to make me pack it in and go home.

I decided to change venues to a pedestrian bridge not too far away. Still nothing.

Resigned to the fact I wasn't going to get any lightning I decided to try and get something not related to electricity shooting out of the sky. I trained the camera on the traffic below, grabbed the fence and set the exposure for 30 seconds. I saw the bolt just as the the shutter closed.

Now I could go home!
