This is from Joshua Tree June of 2024. I had a determination to make a selfie Milky Way pano. I tried something a little different with the ground images. Instead of trying to use Low Level Lighting with constant light, I used 3 remote control speedlights on stands to light the scene.
.
This is the most difficult and technically challenging image I ever created. I had to hike about a mile into the wilderness with all the stands, lights, and camera gear. I had to get exposures on the speedlights correct. Lastly, and most challenging, it's a Milky Way pano selfie. The logistics in taking the pano without a selfie is challenging but adding speedlights and yourself is another level. Also finding a rock formation with a clean and shrubless foreground was very difficult as well.
.
About the technical details of the image...the ground was photographed 20 minutes after sunset. There is a speelight to the left and right of the scene and one behind the rocks. Because it was still blue hour, the lights to the left and right were shot at full power. The light behind the rocks was at 1/4 power. All lights had a CTO gel on them. I am holding a small light panel myself, but that didn't really contributed much in lighting the rocks. It was mostly the speedlights.
.
I finished shooting the ground and then drove about 10 miles south to get my sky images. Photopils showed the MW core rising at 10:01, but other apps stated 9:40, so I began shooting at 9:40.
.
Camera = Fuji X-T3 & Fuji 18mm F/1.4 for ground and sky
Ground = 5 vertical images, ISO 125, 2 sec, F/5.6

Beautiful astrophotography image, but I think your position in it detracts from the overall aesthetic. I like the idea of taking a selfie like this, but I think it would have looked better if you were looking at the milky way and staring up at it in awe. That would have made the image far more impactful and wondrous.
