I had to climb to the roof of the Superdome and cut a hole in the roof. Just kidding.
I shot this as one of the last images I made from Hurricane Katrina after 3 days with no food and little water. Needless to say it was a bitch getting there.
When I got there I saw the shot I wanted but I knew it needed to be from from the field level. It also needed another element so I decided to wait for something to happen and I was going to wait forever if that's how long it took.
Well just seconds after reaching field level and framing up the shot out of the corner of my eye I saw movement in the darkness. It was a kid running across the field. I just has time enough to raise my camera and shoot.
I couldn't believe my luck. I checked the back of my camera to see if I got it but in doing so the kid disappeared into the stands and the darkness. As a photojournalist I always got the names of people in my photos and to my eternal regret I didn't get his name.
It was shot at a 60th of a second because I didn't anticipate an action shot and didn't have time to react
Shot with a Canon EOS 1D @ 60th 2.8 ISO 1600 on a 16-35 2.8
