This photograph (“Diagonal””) was shot underwater in a swimming pool during the early morning hours and took a large degree of coordination and patience between the model and photographer. In addition to the usual challenges to both model and photographer holding their breath and submerging beneath the surface for a brief window to capture the image, this particular underwater image was totally dependent on the water being very still and the model slowly (as to not make any ripples) drifting slowly up towards the surface. The goal was to create a “diagonal” pose with the model’s feet just connecting with the surface. This particular process was cold and exhausting to both model and photographer as it took multiple attempts with intervals required in between shots to allow the water to settle back down again. Post processing amounted to batching into Lightroom and making global adjustments to deal with the underwater muted colors, post-processing and converting to Black & White in Photoshop CC.
