I took this portrait in my living room in Warsaw, Poland. The key light was a gridded softbox, the light side rim was a bare flash, the fill was a very gentle, big modifier and the shadow side rim was another stripbox. The background is lit through multiple gobos using multiple, gelled speedlights.
My biggest challenge, when it comes to the technique, was controlling light spill when firing like 7 strobes in a small, white-painted living room. Grids and flags helped a lot!
The post processing included increasing contrast on the background, adjusting the white balance to match my artistic vision and dodging and burning the face a bit.
I used the first Olympus OM-D E-M10 paired with the 12-40 2.8 zoom at 25mm. Nowadays I use a Canon R and while I love it for its dynamic range and the C1 tethering it offers, sometimes I miss the depth of field m43 offered (it was much easier to make the entire head stay in focus).
