While on vacation in Orange Beach, Alabama, my daughter had the brilliant idea to wake up before sunrise to hunt for seashells. Naturally, we headed to Shell Beach, because if you're looking for shells, why not go straight to the source?

Uncaffeinated and armed with my Fuji X100VI, I wandered the sand as she searched for treasures. Spoiler alert: Shell Beach was a bit of a misnomer that morning, unless you count broken fragments and false hope.

But just as the sun began to rise, I spotted this lifeguard tower standing tall, basking in the soft glow like it knew it was the only one on duty. I snapped the shot before the light shifted.

Moral of the story? You might not always find shells, but you can still come away with a keeper.
