I spent a couple days photographing a few newly hatched Piping Plover chicks near Boston and came away with some cool shots. Piping Plovers are listed as a threatened species in the Northeast and their nesting areas are off-limits. I laid down on the beach from a distance and they approached me, sometimes getting within about 10 feet. This shot shows a chick wandering away from dad to forage. Settings used: 400mm (800mm ff equivalent), f/6.3, 1/1600 of a second, and ISO 800. Shot with an OM System OM-1 and 100-400mm f/5-6.3 lens.
