Come with me
This image was taken in the otherworldly Fanal Forest of Madeira. I used the Canon EOS R5 paired with the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L lens. he wide-angle allowed me to emphasize the gnarled silhouette of the tree in the foreground while still capturing the atmospheric layers of the forest behind. I shot this handheld at f/7.1, 1/160s, ISO 500 to balance the low light. The fog was the hero of this shot. There was no direct light, just a thick, golden-pink haze diffused through the morning mist. I intentionally arrived before sunrise and waited for the light to gently bleed into the forest. The soft tones added a cinematic, timeless mood that I tried to preserve in post-processing with a warm, matte grade. The most difficult part was the unpredictability of the weather. The fog rolls in and out quickly here. I had to be patient, waiting for the moment when the composition aligned: just enough light to define the tree, just enough fog to obscure the background and isolate the subject.
