This photo was taken a little after 4:00 AM in the gQuirang on the island of the skye, Scotland. Successful outdoor shots such as a landscape require being at the right place at the right time with the right light. In this case, sunrise was expected to occur just over a feature in the gQuirang called the prison. This allowrd the capture of the moment the sun peeked over the rock to create a sunstar. In preparing for this shot, it was important to arrive at the location earlier well before sunrise compose the image and prepare for the optimal exposure. Shooting the sunrise a little later would create a lot of lens flare which was largely avoided in this shot. The next challenge of course is processing the image with the extreme dynamic range of the bright sun and sky and the dark foreground. This is sometimes a tricky task and requires a good bit of time and patience to create an acceptable result. Overall, a satisfactorytory outcome.

This is a beautiful image. My eye is naturally drawn to the sun, but there is something fun in every part of this picture.
Amazing image. I love the saturated green against the azure sky. Stunning!
