Stop & Snap

Backstory:
This image captures the bold, geometric façade of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, with the museum standing resilient amidst the city. The challenge was timing and context: I was driving, stopped at a red light, with my Nikon Z6 II and 24-70mm f/4 lens just within reach. In a split second, I removed the lens cover, set a low shutter speed, and snapped the photo. The result captures the flow of traffic in motion while keeping the museum solid and commanding. Soft, diffused light enhanced the building’s textures, and converting the image to black and white accentuated the interplay of light, shadow, and structural geometry. What makes this photo uncommon is the juxtaposition of movement and stability—the museum enduring amid fleeting human activity—a fleeting moment that could only be captured through quick reflexes and anticipation.
