This is 207 images stacked together in Helicon focus. Images were shot with a Nikon D810 on an automated Stackshot rail. Shot with a tube lens containing a reversed Raynox DCR-150 and a Mitutoyo M Plan 5X APO microscope objective. Images are 69 microns apart. The average human hair is 75 microns thick so less than a hair's thickness times 207. Shot tethered using Tether Tools cables and Capture One 20. Post processing is done with Lightroom 6.14 and Photoshop CS6. Lighting is done with two Godox MF-12 flashes on the subject and a Godox TT685N set at 1/128th on slave mode lighting the background. Two layers of diffusion on the flashes themselves and subject is placed in a diffusion tunnel with three layers of diffusion. ISO 160. Shutter 1/200th. After collecting, posing and cleaning each specimen there are about 4-5 hours work to produce an image like this. This type of photography is used in Entomology, Botany and other biological sciences. I enjoy showing people the beauty of common things around them in a way that most would not experience in every day life. I personally deeply love doing this type of work because it is difficult. I am constantly trying to improve my work and learn new ways to refine solutions to the many problems associated with this photography called extreme macro.
