Don't Overlook the Usefulness of Your Viewfinder

It seems like a strange thing to say, but many people actually prefer to shoot using their rear LCDs. On the other hand, viewfinders have a lot of advantages over their rear screen counterparts, and if you do not use yours, it is worth reconsidering it, and this great video tutorial will show you many of the benefits you can get from a viewfinder.

Coming to you from Deaf Director, this excellent video tutorial discusses some of the benefits of using an electronic viewfinder. I think using the rear LCD screen sometimes gets a bad rap, but there are plenty of photographers who prefer using one and who create fantastic images. On the other hand, viewfinders do have some distinct advantages over rear screens. One that is often overlooked is the increased stability of having the camera closer to your body, which can be particularly important if you are shooting with a long focal length or at slow shutter speeds. Personally, though, my favorite aspect is the simple fact that using the viewfinder over the rear screen frees you from distractions and keeps you more involved in the process of creating images. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
