Natural light fall fashion shoot with agency model Makelly.
This outfit was one of five on the shoot. Since the outfit was a solid color and the most basic construction, I felt that the busier graphics of the fallen tree was an interesting counterpoint. The location was a mountain farm and house in the Catskills area of upstate New York. Makelly pose on the recently fallen pine tree with mountain waterfall in the background. I selected a contrasting green fern for her to hold as a prop. The 1840s farm house and surrounding area is owned by my brother and has been featured in several design magazines and a home decorating tv show. The rushing waterfall has been a standout feature of the property.
I shot several angles of this combination of outfit and setting but ultimately selected this compelling angle with the erratic framing of her face and form featuring the waterfall in the distance. The canopy of fall foliage filtered the overhead sunlight so no extra lighting control was required.
The principle challenge was keeping the skin tone neutral. I shot a reference frame of my X-rite Color Passport and balanced the channels of the raw capture in Capture One Pro. Equipment used: Nikon D810 with Nikon 105mm f2 DFC
