Knowing how to light, compose, and pose a portrait is only half of what it takes to create a finished image. The other half is retouching, and it takes a variety of techniques and a delicate touch to create a compelling result. This excellent video tutorial will show you everything you need to know to edit a portrait using both Lightroom and Photoshop.
Coming to you from Francisco Joel Hernandez of FJH Photography, this great video tutorial will show you how to edit a portrait using both Lightroom and Photoshop. If you are new to retouching portraits, perhaps the most important overarching point to remember is that in general, less is more. It is quite easy to overdo things and end up with a result that makes your subject look overly artificial. To avoid this, I generally like to zoom out every minute or two while I am editing to keep an eye on the overall progress, and when I am done with a batch of photos, I will step away from my computer for a minute or two to reset my eyes before returning to evaluate them one more time before I export the set. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Hernandez.
