UPDATED: Performance Artist Claims Burger King Stole and "Digitally Raped" Her Face

One of the members of performance artist YouTube channel RV Wonderspunk is claiming that fast food chain Burger King not only used her photo in an unintended and sexually charged way, but also did so without asking permission or paying for the image. Aside from the fact the photo is allegedly stolen, this is an example of how far from original intent some can take an image.

UPDATED: Wikipedia Refuses to Remove Famous Photo Because Copyright is "Owned by Monkey"

THIS ARTICLE HAS BEEN UPDATED 08/06/2014 10:55 AM PST. Wikimedia, the company behind Wikipedia, has refused the requests of a photographer to remove a photo from its Wikimedia Commons photo collection of royalty free images. The Telegraph is reporting that Wikimedia claims that the photographer who owned the camera on which the image was taken doesn't actually own the photo... the monkey who shot the selfie does.

Workflow Review: Backing Up and Delivering Content with WD MyPassport & My Cloud Mirror

Western Digital makes some of my favorite hard drives, and one drive in particular recently caught my interest: the My Cloud Mirror. The idea of the My Cloud Mirror was appealing: managing my own cloud network that could be accessed from anywhere and also shared out of, but without a monthly fee. Basically, it is a personal DropBox. I had a pretty set-in-stone process for working remotely and delivering content which has included DropBox, but I decided to give a wholly WD workflow a shot and see if it could do the job just as well, if not better.

The Music Bed has just announced a huge contest aimed at aspiring filmmakers called "Project Film Supply." The plan is to award three aspiring filmmakers with over $50,000 in prizes to help bring their film vision to life. To enter, all you have to do is pitch your short film idea, get votes, and the top three winning ideas will receive a ton of stuff from The Music Bed as well as a host of their industry partners.

How Lightfarm Brasil Made the Spectacular 3D Model/Photo Composite "Harmful Nature"

A small amount of nudity has made this NSFW, but it's really pretty minor and totally worth making a profile to view it, I promise. If not, you can go straight to the Vimeo video here. The last time we featured Lightfarm Brasil's work, most of you were just as stunned by it as me (and I was floored). Today they sent me their latest project and I'm just as awed by this one as the last. It is called "Harmful Nature" and again masterfully combines 3D renderings with photography to produce an oustanding final product.

Timelapse Machine Review: The Syrp Genie Gets a Lot Right

There is no avoiding it: timelapse is popular right now. With the ability to use relatively low-cost cameras to still generate extremely high resolution video, hardly a day goes by without a new, amazing timelapse video blowing up on Vimeo. The Syrp Genie is a Kickstarter success story, garnering over six times the original asking pledge amount. After using it for several months, I have to say it gets a lot right, but it still left me wishing it did more.

Making This Video Portrait Required Lady Gaga to Pose for 6 Hours

Now this is fascinating: Lady Gaga worked with photographer Robert Wilson to produce a stunning video portrait. The portrait was one of a set of others that were on display in the Lourve last year, but are only released to American audiences last Saturday at the Watermill Center in New York. Likely as a marketing initiative, two minutes of those 6 hours have been uploaded to YouTube.

LensRentals Canada Suspends Operations, Blames Canada Post Corporation

File this one under weird and unfortunate: LensRentals Canada has suspended operations due to problems with Canada Post Corporation, the principal mail delivery company in Canada. Though it's not explained on the emergency "there is a problem" text-only version of the website, this kind of sounds like Canada Post Corporation is losing LensRentals product.

EOSHD Crowns A7S King of Video, Deposes Canon 5D Mark III Magic Lantern

If you want to learn video on DSLRs and the like, there are few better resources than EOSHD. Andrew Reid is extremely knowledgable (it actually frightens me how much he knows) and is excellent as a real pro talking about, often, consumer equipment. He recently did a large test with the A7s against a set of cameras, and he says it's replaced his go-to 5D Mark III with Magic Lantern raw.

500px Launches New Statistics App-"500px Insights"

500px is today launching a new iOS app called "500px Insights," which will give users access to all the valuable statistics on their 500px pages and allow them to better promote their work and strategically engage with their audience. This is a great step to getting more information about what is likely a huge networking tool for many photographers.

This Short Film Perfectly Captures Everything it Means to Be a Photographer

My friend Mykii Liu shared this video on his Facebook this morning and I really felt like I had to pass it on. This film focuses on a young woman who talks about the simple things she has, why she has them and what they mean to her. Not only is the message great, but the manner in which this is filmed is also fantastic.

DJI's MōVI Competitor, the Ronin, Gets a $1500 Price Slash Ahead of Release

When the MōVI came to market, it changed the video world instantly. It was, quite simply, an unimaginably amazing stabilization rig that looked to defy physics. We all wanted one, but at the asking price of $5000, many thought it was a bit too steep to rationalize. That's why the DJI competitor, the Ronin, had so many excited. Now there is even more to look forward to, as it's set to retail for only $1500 less than originally announced.

Review in Progress: The Sony a7S and the Promise of 4K

The Sony a7S has been the subject of a hotbed of conversation for the past four or five months as a camera with a lot of potential to really shake up the cinema world. This of course was extremely interesting to me as a videographer. I've finally gotten my hands on the camera and after a few days shooting with it on set, I'm not quite ready to write a review, but I do think it is important to address a feature about which I feel lied to: 4K.

Laugh with Us at This Preposterously Overpacked Camera Battery Shipped from DHL

I don't know about you guys, but I sometimes get some pretty questionable packing from Amazon, but this far exceeds anything I've ever encountered. Youtuber Ottar Gilason works for a camera store and the amount of packaging DHL included on an order for a single camera battery charger is downright hilarious.

What It's Like to Photograph F16s... From Another F16

It's hard to imagine someone not describing what Sergeant Larry Reid Jr. does as a dream job. Once you see what he does, the images he captures and the joy on his face as he explains his process, part of you (no matter who you are) kind of wishes you were him. With two cameras strapped around his neck firing shots off while his pilot banks at seven G's, Sergeant Reid is living the dream.

Watch the City of Barcelona in Jaw Dropping Super Speed "Flow-Motion"

It's extremely easy to produce mundane timelapses, which is why amazing work like "Barcelona GO!" produced by filmmaker Rob Whitworth gets me so jazzed. This timelapse/hyperlapse done in "flow-motion" (what Rob calls his fast-moving short films) is simply stunning.

In the Spirit of July 4th, Watch a DJI Phantom Fly Through Fireworks

Ah July 4th. For us in the United States, this national holiday calls for hot dogs, beer and most importantly fireworks. YouTuber Jos Stinglingh may have published this video of a DJI Phantom 2 and a GoPro a couple months ago in West Palm Beach, Florida, but there are few dates more apt to view it than today.
