I struggled to give this a three-star rating. I did it because it is better than just a two, while it could use some work.
If you had been on the other side of them and not shooting the shadow side of them they would be better light. Perhaps a flash to fill the shadows a little would help. Perhaps in post you could lighten the people to help see some detail.
While I can see how people would rate this a one-star, it could easily be a solid three-star with a little post-processing or a few changes in the field.
