The Roanoke River Lighthouse in Edenton, North Carolina. We usually stop here on our way back to NC from vacation in upstate New York. We split the trip up so we always end up here for lunch, hence I'm always here in the middle of the day.
Mid day shots can make for good black and white images as the harsh light can give you some good contrast between light and dark. To create this I did most of the black and white conversion in lightroom using a bunch of selective masking. I then brought the photo into photoshop. I did some more, what I would call, selective dodging and burning using several curves levels. I also decided to replace the sky with a long exposure sky I took a couple years ago. However, I reduced the opacity some on my replaced sky to keep a little of the texture of the original sky. I also used a blur filter on the water to give it a long exposure painterly look.
