Lydia In Shadows

Beauty shot of striking model from fashion catalog shoot. This shot is one of my favorite shots because it was a personal shot taken during a client shoot. The model was already beautifully made up and styled. I happen to see a small shaft of raw natural light bleeding in from an open door of make-shift studio we had set up in client's warehouse. With the patience and indulgence of the model I reset quickly for the natural light shot using my fastest lens the 105mm f/2.0 DC which is a great lens for beauty shots. I brought a Foamcor reflector to just outside the image crop which serves as the light source for the bulk of the image. The raw light hit only the model's left cheek and forehead creating the defining highlight. The model's unique hair and angular features are amplified in the moody lighting. It remains one of my favorite shots because of the organic nature of the events that led up to the shot which would be hard to duplicate.
