Taken in Italy while on holiday. We had stopped in the middle of nowhere in the blazing heat and I noticed this small group of grasses that I thought were stunning and quite unusual. I reached for my trusty tripod and took a few shots. Fortunately the grass heads were in the shade away from the bright sun. I used a fast shutter speed, my Fuji macro lens and rolled off a few shots that I stacked in Photoshop.
I wanted a shallow depth of field but needed to keep the main grass head in sharp focus and in context with it's surroundings. The bokeh is really soft with the image gradually getting more and more out of focus but not completely blurred.
Challenges were to keep the grass es sharp without movement and for the soft shadowy light not to blow out the highlights.
