The main staircase in the Palau de las Artes Reina Sofía, in brutalist style. The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía is part of the Ciudad de las Artes y de las Ciencias and was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. Calatrava completed the first concept studies for this building back in 1995. The opera house stands out due to its unusually curved design. The narrow roof curves outwards in the shape of a folded spherical segment. The exterior walls also describe curved lines. At its highest point, the building reaches 75 meters spread over up to 14 floors; there are three additional floors below the ground floor. The building is 230 meters long and offers a total area of 40,000 m². In terms of enclosed volume, it is the largest opera house in the world.
