What Is a Test Shoot?

TFP, Time For Print, Time For Photos; All these terms and initialisms can become a bit daunting and overwhelming. What do they all mean? I definitely can’t pay rent with exposure dollars. So why is everyone always offering exposure for compensation?

Rokinon Announces 24mm & 14mm T1.5 Cine Lenses

Many folks already don't trust third party lenses, which is a shame because there are a lot of great options out there. Rokinon doesn't have the established name recognition that the other major players do, but that doesn't stop them from putting themselves out there. With this new Rokinon 24mm T1.5 Cine Lens, they might just get some attention.

Quick Website Checkup and Security Bar Check: Is Your Site the Way It Should Be?

SSL has become the preferred way for all sites to be displayed as opposed to only being used for shopping carts and pages where you would enter personal data. For some time, there's been a transition from http to https, and it was a choice mostly based on the intended activities of your website viewers.

The Wednesday Rundown 9.1.10

Hello everyone and welcome to the Wednesday Rundown. Where has summer gone, where has these beautiful women at the beach I was going to do a photo shoot with go? As reality hits and the days start to shorten I remember my goals to reach this summer and well notice I have fallen short. I have booked some gigs but to really go out and shoot things others have not, well that is one many of us do not achieve. This week I feel like I have found a video or at least a prospective I love. Hopefully next weekend I can attempt to shoot like this rock climbing photographer and get back in one piece. I hope the best for my gear also. contactfstoppers@gmail.com
Fujifilm Announces Repair Program for GFX100 Owners

Earlier this year, Fujifilm unleashed the GFX100 unto the world — with 100 megapixels, a sensor between full frame and 645, and... a problem with the shutter lock on the vertical grip for some users. Uh oh.

Your Content Will Continue to Fall Flat Unless You Become a Better Interviewer

If you’re a videographer that runs your own business, you know that you have to be a jack of all trades. You know that your skills can’t be limited to just creating great images. You need to be good with business, networking, and a whole lot more. What you might not realize is that for the vast majority of self-made videographers, you’ll need to be good at conducting interviews.

Microsoft and Canon Sign Cross-Licensing Agreement on Patents

Yesterday, Canon and Microsoft agreed to terms on a cross-licensing agreement on each of their highly valued patent portfolios. This now means that Canon and Microsoft are able to use each others patents easily, allowing innovation and new products between the two of them to be released much quicker than before, but what does this mean for the photography community?

Fstoppers Contest: It's Time To Vote!

First of all I would like to apologize for the delay. We have been in contact with a few other web admins with contest experience and they warned us that cheating could be a big problem. We wanted to create a fair voting system before we jumped into this and we have finally figured it out. To keep the voting fair (and not a popularity contest) the poll will take place on our forums here. To vote you must be a member of the forum and you must have made at least 3 comments on other posts before you are eligible to vote. Commenting 3 times is not hard but it is difficult enough to deter random friends who are not Fstoppers readers from voting and it keeps users from creating multiple accounts. If you are in the running, feel free to tell your friends to sign up and vote for you, but if you make multiple forum accounts you will be disqualified (we CAN see who you are). We were planning on picking our favorite 5 videos for you guys to vote on but we had so many good submissions that we have narrowed it down to 10 videos to vote on. If you didn't make the top 10 please don't be discouraged. Keep making videos and sending them in. After you pick your favorite video in the full post, head over to the forum to vote. Voting will last 5 days starting now.

Are You Being Authentic in Your Branding?

The first bit of advice I can recall getting was given to me by my parents. I was about to start school for the first time and I wanted people to like me. There advice was something that we've all been told: “just be yourself.” As professional photographer, I still want people to like me. This article covers why simply being yourself is great advice, especially when it comes to branding.

R.L. Morris Weddings: A Quick Interview

For those of you that don't know, I am a wedding photographer. I have been a wedding photographer for about 6 years now and believe it or not, I actually like it. Wedding photography has given me so much freedom in my life and has allowed me to start new projects like Fstoppers.com. Patrick and I are going to begin creating behind the scenes videos that pertain to wedding photography in the near future and we plan to cover everything from starting a business from scratch to delivering the final product. I didn't create the video below for Fstoppers; I actually created it for potential clients that may not have the opportunity to meet me in person before booking me. I realized that I only get a chance to meet about 50% of my clients before the day of their wedding. That's the downside with booking weddings outside of the state. I hope that you enjoy taking a closer look at what my life is currently like. More wedding videos will be posted soon.

How You Can Boost Sales by Selling Prints

Printing images is a service that is often in high demand with various clients. While wedding albums may still reign king, it’s never a bad idea to go back to good old fashion silver halide photo prints. These differ from Fine Art Prints, which use a different printing process. Often times “silver halid” is also referred to as “Photographic Prints”, and Zno’s prints in this area offer many options.

Using Photography to Document the End of a Musical Era

Ebru Yildiz is a photographer based in New York. She shoots portraits and live music events and has clients like the New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, and Pitchfork to name a few. One of the places she's shot a lot of work at has recently closed their doors. The venue, Death By Audio in Williamsburg, has been one of the most vital underground music venues in the NYC community. It occupied a large warehouse on the waterfront from 2005 until 2014 and hosted bands who due to their performances there later enjoyed international acclaim. Bands like A Place to Bury Strangers, Jeff The Brotherhood, and Lightning Bolt and many more graced the stage in this venue.
