This photo is one of the first images I took of a wood sandpiper and still one of my favourites. I took this image back in 2021, with a Canon 80D and a Sigma 150-600mm sports lens. I found a puddle in the middle of the field where birds were coming for a drink. I got my 3d camo suit on and laid down at the edge of this puddle, waiting for some birds to come through. It didn't take long and this sandpiper showed up and stayed for a couple of minutes. The lens was on the ground, with just my hand underneath, to not get wet and dirty and combined with an aperture of f/6.3 at 512mm gives this image a shallow enough depth of field to separate the subject from the background while still keeping the whole subject sharp.
