A coyote at dusk with a San Francisco neighborhood in the background.

Coyotes are native to San Francisco and have lived here for a very long time. Yet, they are still misunderstood and villainized here. The city has many parks and coyotes have thrived in the these parks. With the growing population of pet owners and coyotes, there have been numerous reports of coyote-dog conflicts in the city’s parks and sometimes, streets. Survival of these urban coyotes depend on the residents and the leaders of the city understanding coyotes better and learning to foster co-existence with them.

WOW - and he let you get a photo of him...the coyotes here in WA state see you coming and off they go....this one looks well maintained...Great shot!

"let?" He didn't say his specs, I would have liked to see that. But you can see from Karthik's profile picture that he has a very long lens, that means that he could be at quite a distance.

@Don L: thanks! Most coyotes in SF also get spooked by humans but some are increasingly getting used to people around. I took this photo with a 100-400 lens at 367mm.
